What Is Colon Hydrotherapy
Colon Hydrotherapy, or colonics, is a safe and gentle internal cleansing process. It involves the infusion of filtered and purified water into the colon via the rectum. The colon is flushed and hydrated, removing waste material, impacted faecal matter, bad bacteria, excess mucous, gas and toxins in the process.
Colon irrigation or colonics as it is also referred to, is essentially a rejuvenating and detoxifying treatment. It helps to restore bowel function which over time is affected by such things as stress, dehydration, lifestyle and dietary choices, medications, lack of exercise and parasites.
A healthy, well-functioning bowel is essential for the maintenance of optimal health.
Who Would Benefit From Colon Hydrotherapy
In short – almost everyone!
Every cell and tissue in the body is fed by the bloodstream, which is supplied by the bowel. It makes sense therefore, that we must consider the bowel first when considering our health. Toxins in the bowel can enter and circulate in the bloodstream, making their way into every cell and tissue of the body, causing any number of conditions, ailments and even disease.
Colon Hydrotherapy flushes waste and toxins from your bowel. It kick starts the detox process and causes a major cleansing reaction throughout the body. This results in a cleaner bloodstream and a strengthened immune system. Colonics improves the muscle tone of your intestinal walls and assists with the absorption of nutrients into your body.
What Happens During a Colon Hydrotherapy Session
The first thing we do at Eastern Colon Health is take some time to discuss your health and the reasons behind you coming for colonics. This helps us to tailor a program that suits you personally. Your very first appointment will take approximately 1 hr and 15 mins. Subsequent appointments take around 60 minutes. The actual colonic treatment goes for around 45 minutes.
Once your history is taken, you will lay comfortably on a massage table. A speculum is inserted into the rectum and tubing attached. This tubing is then attached to the Colon Hydrotherapy machine. Throughout the treatment, purified water enters the bowel through one tube, and water and waste is released through another. There is no smell, no noise and no mess.
A qualified practitioner is with you throughout the whole procedure, altering the water temperature and activating the ‘fills’ and ‘releases’ according to how you are responding to the treatment. This optimises the results of your colonic enormously. Your abdomen is massaged with aromatherapy oils to assist in the release of as much wastes as possible from the bowel wall. You can see the eliminations as they occur through a viewing tube. This is usually the highlight of the session and gives us much to talk about! This is just one reason why we always recommend you make sure you find a Colon Hydrotherapist who uses the Closed System of colonics.
Closed System vs Open System
There are two types of Colon Hydrotherapy clinics that you can go to – one that uses a closed system and one that uses an open system. The majority of the public are unaware that there is a difference in the way that colonics are administered. The fact of the matter is that this difference can substantially affect the outcome of your colonic so please be aware of what method you are booking in for when choosing a Colon Hydrotherapy clinic.
Here at Eastern Colon Health, we only recommend the closed system as it is the safest and most effective way to cleanse the bowel. This is the system we use. Here is the difference.
The Closed System - This is a fully assisted, therapist operated Colon Hydrotherapy session. Your therapist must be certified and insured. The therapist explains the procedure and does the rectal insertion. They are with you at all times to control and monitor your colonic, and to discuss with you what is happening throughout the procedure. You do not have to ‘hold’ your water, nor push your waste out, and the cleansing process is able to reach right around the whole colon. Abdominal massage is performed and peristalsis is actively stimulated by your therapist through a series of pulsating techniques – it’s like taking your colon to the gym! Warmer and cooler treatments are alternated in response to your evacuations right there and then. Your therapist can identify such things as dehydration, plaque, unchewed or undigested food, candida, parasites, mucous, old faecal matter and give you an explanation. Clients are given an education in a relaxed and informative atmosphere.
The Open System - These sessions are generally less expensive and there is reason for it. A person will explain the procedure to you and advise you how to do your own insertion. They do not require a certificate that is recognised in Australia. After doing your own insertion, a machine is set and you are left to your own devices. Various instructions may be offered about how to hold your water and release your waste. You evacuate your own waste out as the urge overcomes you. If you are cramping or feeling uncomfortable you can press a buzzer and be seen by a therapist. There may be 3 to 4 treatment rooms operating per therapist. You release into a shute, hence the description, ‘open system’, and there can be noise, odour and sometimes mess. A therapist is not always present to explain what you are releasing and does not control your colonic in response to what’s happening right there and then.
Please always be aware of what method you are booking in for when choosing a Colon Hydrotherapy clinic.
